  Did you spot Renishaw's neuromate stereotactic robot that featured in an episode of the BBC drama Holby City? During the episode, neuromate assists with the treatment of an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) patient who undergoes a stereotactic Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) procedure.

Renishaw contributes to Canadian medical design centre
Renishaw has contributed to a new medical centre in London, Canada. The centre, Additive DEsign In Surgical Solutions (ADEISS) is the result of a partnership between Western University, the London Medical Network and Renishaw. The centre will focus on the research, development and commercialisation of additively manufactured medical devices and surgical instruments. It will also aid in the development of additively manufactured medical technology to resolve healthcare issues across the globe.

  Three surgeons will showcase implant technology from Renishaw during a masterclass at the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) conference this year. The Annual Scientific Meeting is taking place between June 28th - 30th at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, UK.

Neuromate stereotactic robot installed in Ontario
Renishaw has announced the first neuromate stereotactic robot in Canada has been installed in the LHSC in London, Ontario. The first neuromate assisted neurosurgical procedure performed in Canada was a Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) case, a procedure which uses intracerebral electrodes to measure electrical signals within the brain. The aim of this type of surgery is to identify which area of the brain is generating the sudden bursts of electrical signals which cause epileptic seizures.

Renishaw will attend the second annual International 3D Printing in Medicine Conference in Mainz, Germany on May 19th-20th. Renishaw will demonstrate the opportunities that additive manufacturing (AM) creates in craniomaxillofacial surgery, by exhibiting its bespoke implants and providing demonstrations of its new implant design software, Additive-manufacture for Design-led Efficient Patient Treatment (ADEPT).

Robot assisted surgery makes its debut at Welsh hospital
A robotic assisted stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) neurosurgery procedure has been successfully completed at the University Hospital of Wales with help from engineering and scientific technology company Renishaw. This landmark procedure, which identified the source for epileptic seizures, coincided with BioWales, an annual conference, which celebrates Wales’ position as a global pioneer in the life science sector.

Renishaw previews software at 3D Medical Expo 2017
Engineering and healthcare technologies company Renishaw will be returning to the 3D Medical Expo taking place at MEEC Maastricht, in the Netherlands, between January 31 and February 1, 2017. Renishaw will preview the Additive-manufacture for Design-led Efficient Patient Treatment (ADEPT) software set to launch later this year. ADEPT is a software tool for designing patient specific implants (PSIs) used in craniomaxillofacial surgery.

Drug delivery system for the treatment of Parkinson’s
Renishaw’s latest drug delivery system, to be used in partnership with Herantis Pharma Plc’s drug candidate CDNF for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, is about to enter phase 1-2 clinical trials. The study will be supported by a €6 million grant from Horizon 2020, the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s are notoriously difficult to target with medication due to the protective role of the blood-brain barrier.
